McIntosh AV Processor Comparison

Recently, McIntosh announced two new A/V processors, the MX170 and the MX123. Both have new features and improvements over their previous models. But knowing the differences can be tricky so we want to help you out.

Differences from MX160 to the MX170
• All HDMI updated to 2.0b (4K) 18Gbps bandwidth supports full 4K Ultra HD at 50/ 60 Hz and 4:4:4 color
• Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) added to 1 HDMI output
• Added support for Dolby Vision and HLG
• Can output 16 discrete audio channels vs. 12 (15.1 vs 11.1)
• 2 more RoomPerfect decoding channels
• Updated analog to digital convertor technology to maximize the audio quality of analog sources

Similarities from MX160 to the MX170
• Same number and type of inputs and outputs
• All HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2
• Bass and treble tone control
• 4 of the balanced outputs can be used to bi-amp speakers or drive additional subwoofers
• Supports HDR10 high dynamic range
• 3D video pass-through
• Supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D
• Same chassis size and style
